Pick the walk before the itinerary
A short trip can disappear into a list of places you feel obliged to visit. Try choosing one walk instead: a stretch of coast, a neighborhood you’ve never wandered through, or a path beside the water. Let lunch and the rest of the day fit around it.
Sort out the unglamorous details
Check where the route begins, how you’ll get back, and where you can stop for a drink or a rest. Look up the weather close to departure. Save the route somewhere you can reach it without relying on a perfect mobile signal. Choose a shorter option too, especially if you’re walking with a group.
Don’t book every hour after it
Leave room for the bakery you spot on the way back or the bench with the good view. A weekend doesn’t have to be packed to feel worthwhile. Sometimes the best part is having nowhere else you need to be for a while.
