Pack for the trip you are taking
Before you start pulling things out of drawers, write down what you’re actually doing. Two nights away, a long walk, and one dinner out? Pack for those plans. The extra outfits usually arrive when you start packing for every possible version of the weekend.
Make the clothes work together
Choose trousers or a skirt that go with more than one top. Wear your bulkier shoes, and only pack a second pair if they have a clear job. Keep a small pouch for the charger and other bits that otherwise disappear at the bottom of the bag.
Keep the important things close
Identification, tickets and anything you need during the journey belong somewhere easy to reach. Check the carrier’s current baggage rules before you leave. When you get home, notice what never left the bag. That’s a useful starting point for packing less next time.
