Give the first page an easy job
A new notebook can feel too nice to write in. Break that spell with something useful: a shopping list, three dinner ideas, or the name of a book someone mentioned. You don’t need a system before you have anything to remember.
Write the way you think
Use full sentences when an idea needs explaining and scraps of words when it doesn’t. Put a date at the top if you want to find the page later. Cross things out. Draw an arrow. A working notebook is allowed to look worked in.
Come back for the good bits
At the end of the week, flip through a few pages. Circle the idea you still want to try and move the one unfinished task that matters. Leave the rest. A notebook earns its place by helping you remember things, not by making every page look ready for a photograph.
