Find a spot you will actually use

You don’t need a breakfast nook built into the house. The end of a table, a clear stretch of counter, or a small desk near the window can do the job. Check that the chair is comfortable and that somebody can still walk past while you’re sitting there.

Leave room for breakfast

Put down a plate, a cup and whatever else you use every morning before adding decorations. If the table is tiny, keep the extras on a nearby shelf. A tray can help, but it shouldn’t turn a simple meal into an exercise in moving things around.

Make one small change

Try a favorite mug, a cloth napkin or a little plant. Sit there at your usual breakfast time and see how the light falls. You might only need to move the chair. The nicest corner is one you can enjoy on a rushed Tuesday, not just when the whole room is tidy.
